Care Instructions
Cleaning Your Coat
The coat itself (without the fur!) is easy to clean. For the wool or cashmere parts, you can either hand wash it in cold water with a special wool or cashmere detergent or put it in the washing machine – but only on the wool cycle and at a maximum of 30°C (86°F). Fabric softener? Please don’t! Let the coat air dry flat to maintain its shape and quality. The detachable fur should be cleaned separately – ideally by a professional dry cleaner.
Proper Storage for Your Coat
- Always hang your coat on a wide-shouldered hanger (no wire hangers, as neither the fur nor the fabric appreciates them).
- Give it space in your wardrobe – the fur “breathes” and should not be crushed.
- Plastic bags, rubber totes, or plastic boxes? Nope! These block air circulation, which can dry out the fur and make it brittle.
- If your coat gets wet, simply shake it out and let it dry in a well-ventilated area – never place it on a radiator.
- Once the fur is dry, shake it again. If the hairs stick together, you can carefully brush them out with a soft natural-bristle brush.
- Keep the fur away from direct heat sources like radiators, hair dryers, or open flames – otherwise, the fur and the leather underneath may dry out.
- A little rain or snow won’t hurt the fur (better than wool or leather!), but remember: A fur coat is not a raincoat.
- Direct UV light isn’t great for the fur either, as it can cause fading or changes. So avoid leaving it in the sun for long periods.
Helpful Tips for Long-Lasting Style
- Take your fur to a fur specialist for cleaning once a year – never to a regular dry cleaner.
- Avoid sitting on your coat and unfasten it when you sit down to help it maintain its shape.
- If your car has fabric seats, take off the coat before sitting. The fabric can pull out hairs and eventually create bald spots.
- Perfume, hairspray, or chemicals? Avoid them – they can damage the fur.
- Avoid wearing jewelry near the fur.
- Use shoulder or crossbody bags sparingly – friction can wear down the fur and create bald patches.
- Chain straps are an absolute no-go! They can severely damage the fur.
With these tips, your coat will stay beautiful for years, and you’ll enjoy wearing it every season!
